Happy birthday, Prince Louis! Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating their youngest child as he turns 6 years old by sharing a new photo of the little royal taken by the Princess of Wales herself.

The Prince and Princess of Wales continued their birthday tradition on Tuesday (April 23) to share a new portrait taken by Middleton on social media of their youngest son as he celebrated turning 6. The royals typically honor their children — including Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 8 — with new portraits for their birthdays, per People. In the sweet pic, Prince Louis can be seen wearing a checkered shirt, laying on a blanket on the grass and grinning at the camera.

"Happy 6th Birthday, Prince Louis!" the post reads alongside a note thanking supporters for "all the kind wishes today."

The new portrait comes weeks after the royals notably shared a photo taken by Prince William of Middleton with their children that was determined to have been edited. The Princess of Wales later admitted to editing the photo herself, expressing her "apologies for any confusion the family photograph" may have caused.

The new portrait also follows Middleton's announcement that she was was undergoing cancer treatment, sharing in a video that the "shock" health update came as a surprise and that they had been attempting to "manage this privately for the sake of our young family." A royal expert recently claimed that the Princess of Wales has been making good progress amid her cancer journey.
